For a Gentle History Walk

We have regular monthly meetings at the Central Methodist Hall in Todmorden. These are on the third Thursday of every month. There's a speaker, refreshments and the chance to discuss what groups and the committee are doing. Here's a map of the location:

Is u3a good for your health?

We hope so. Here are the exercises Lynne Midwinter, local physiotherapy boss, put us through last year. Yes they really are good for you.

And in our February 2009 meeting local GP Dr David Ryland put us through some mental gymnastics - challenging us to decide what the local health authority's priorities should be. Dementia drugs or AIDS advice? Drop-in centre or eye surgery? What a surprise: we found consensus difficult. But enjoyed the exercise.

History insights

Some of our recent meetings have featured historical topics. Member Geoff Boswell for instance talked in November 2008 about the milestones, crosses and causey paths in the Todmorden area.

Most recently in January 2009 Robert Priestley of the Antiquarians talked about the ancient township of Langfield. Full details of past meetings are in our archives.

And sometimes meetings are just plain fun. This is our very own Senior Moments concert party entertaining members at the Christmas 2008 meeting.
